Azamara Pursuit…Days 5 & 6 Amsterdam

Considered the Venice of the North, Amsterdam it a vibrant and very busy city with more canals than Venice. The canals connect about 90 islands with 1280 bridges, necessary, due to a lot of this city being built on reclaimed land.

Biking is the traditional mode of transportation and even more popular today. There are bicycles everywhere! I prefer to walk, but one has to pay attention to all the traffic…trains, trams, buses, cars and especially the bicycles; I almost got plowed down several times.

To me, Amsterdam is about all the various museums and restaurants. I especially love the art museums, with my favorite being the Van Gogh Museum. The Riiks Museum is very popular as well, as is the Anne Frank House. The restaurants represent almost every nationality possible. A cruise on one of the canal cruise boats is a must do!
