One would think it would be easy for a self proclaimed Gypsy to move out of one’s home, but it wasn’t for this one. I originally purchased this little ranch style home in 2005. It took almost 9 months to gut it and mostly completely remodel it. Built in 1966, it was what my daughter would call “vintage”. I was never really attracted to the house itself, but loved the lake lot it sat on. It also had what I would call good bones for a house, structurally sound, so one it would make sense to remodel. In retrospect it was one of those…add it to the list of my many bad judgement calls things. Many tens of thousands of dollars later (I am embarrassed to say how many) I am still owner of this over improved little property. Since I have been back and forth to the Low Country over the past few years it has been mostly rented out, fully furnished.
My current new renters wanted it emptied so that’s how I have been spending most of my free time in the past several weeks. Going through, packing, and many trips to the local Goodwill later I am totally moved out and ready to embark on a Gypsy path. Packing away most of ones possessions and not knowing when I will see them again is a little unsettling. However, it can also be a little bit freeing. I don’t have (at least temporarily) all these material things holding me down, or holding me back. Just the clothes on my back and several dozen pairs of shoes! A computer and a small photo printer and I’m on the road again!
